How to choose the right boxing gloves?
As a general rule, we recommend using the largest gloves suitable for your hand size and body weight during training. Larger gloves provide more protection during strikes and are safer for your sparring partner.
What does the oz size of boxing gloves mean?
The size of standard boxing gloves is measured in ounces (oz). One ounce equals approximately 28.35 grams. A higher oz rating means a heavier glove and generally more protective padding.
The most common boxing glove sizes:
10 oz - lighter gloves suitable for speed training, technical drills or certain competition purposes.
12 oz - a lighter, more versatile option for technical training.
14 oz - a popular training size, especially among lighter and medium-weight fighters.
16 oz - the most common choice for sparring thanks to increased protection for both the hands and training partner.
What boxing gloves should beginners choose?
Beginners should choose gloves primarily based on how they intend to use them. If you train with a partner, classic sparring gloves with sufficient padding are the best choice. For solo training on a heavy bag, we recommend specialized bag gloves.
For most beginners who train technique, combinations and sparring, 14 - 16 oz boxing gloves are usually the best choice.
